On Monday, November 13, the junior class voted Amy Martinez as new president and Jackie Medina as new vice president to replace its former president Nicole Carlile (who will now be graduating with the class of 2007) and former vice president Renessa Johnson (who did not want to take the president’s position since club law states that when something occurs with the president and he/she cannot keep the position, the vice president moves up to the presidency).

Martinez said she was “shocked” about winning the presidency because she did not campaign and knows she will have to work hard to raise the money needed.

“I’m going to try my best to get the class of ’08 back on its feet in the quickest time possible,” she said.

The plan so far to raise money for the class is selling candy and doughnuts before school near the commons. When she won the presidency, Amy helped her class to stay on track by selling gum and Jolly Ranchers at five cents each, and suckers at twenty-five cents each in hope that the group will make a good profit.

If enough money is not raised, this year’s prom will be only for seniors.

“If we don’t raise $3000 by April 2007, we won’t have a junior-senior prom,” junior LaTasha Everett said. “But we want to have a good prom, and a cheap prom will cost $3,000, and we don’t even have $200. Plus, we want to have a junior- and senior-year class trip at an undecided location, so we have to really work hard.”

So juniors, take part in all fundraising to help your class with special functions; if not, expect only to have a senior prom this spring.
