Girls swimming is wrapping up their season on a good note. The Lancer team placed 6th at Upstate Eight, and Varsity placed 8th.
The season has gone very well for all members of JV and Varsity. Each swimmer is setting individual goals, and their teammates and coaches are helping them reach them. But breaking personal records is only one of the highlights of swim and dive this year.
"The highlight of the season I would say is placing in invitation swim meets," said sophomore Iryna Chernitska. "The coaches are always trying their best to set their swimmers in a better position at swim meets, preparing them for better swims or dives, whether that is mentally or physically."
Varsity swimmer Natalie Shannon, sophomore, said, "The varsity coach, Coach Dan, has really helped me become a better swimmer this year."
The guidance of the coaches has shown through the lancer teams’ successful performance at conference. Many swimmers met or broke personal records. However, such improvement is hard without a pool for our swim teams to use.
The swimmers use the College of DuPage pool, which will be closing down.
"We’re trying to find a new pool to swim in. If we can’t find one, we might not have a team next year because we don’t have a pool" Shannon said "All of the swim girls really want a pool because I can guarantee you that if we had one we’d be so much better and we’d place better than 6th at conferences."
The end of the season also means the senior swimmers, some of LP’s best, are leaving the team.
"We are losing a lot of great swimmers this year, including Taylor Johns, Adriana Romani, Briana Scavone, Emma Gasinski, Val Julian, Cindy Coleman, and Maddie Collins," said Iryna Chernitska. "They have been a great group of girls and we are all going to miss them next year."
