The YMCA is known as a universal host for sports games, school dances, summer camps and daycare. In May of 2005 the Frederick county YMCA Board of Directors chose Middletown as the site for a brand new YMCA facility that will offer a lot of programs for adults, teens and kids.

AC Jets on Old National Pike is the most likely site for the new Y, which will need 17 acres of room. At this point there is no exact date for when construction will begin, nor has the best site has been chosen, and there is still no solid agreement between Middletown and the Frederick YMCA. However, that does not mean that all hope for a YMCA in Middletown is gone.

The new Y would look very similar to the Y in Hagerstown, including a pool, basketball courts, weight and exercise rooms, and separate rooms for teen and adult indoor classes. The Y will also offer many Youth Programs, and year-round classes. Programs would include dance, martial arts, and gymnastics, and sports programs like soccer, T-ball, swimming, basketball, and volleyball.

“I think the YMCA would make Middletown a more convenient place to live. This way we would not have to drive so far to get to a gym or pool during the school year," said MHS sophomore Katelyn Rossick.
